I've had this idea that maybe I could get a party/panel/or chopstick tutorial and contest. We would teach those who don't know how to use chopsticks (I saw people at the Kakkoicon eating ramen with forks! It's okay, but I've eaten ramen my whole life with chopsticks so I noticed. <.< >.>) and give practice to those who already know. Then have the newbies practice moving food from bowl to bowl, like popcorn or easier things. Then have contests when they're ready.

I'll have a big bowl of like Peanut M&Ms/etc. and time 1 minute and you use chopsticks to move them to your bowl. You keep what you end up with at the end. And the people with the Most M&Ms in the end of the day, or time will be named Chopstick King/Queen/Ninja and get a nice set of chopsticks.

Any ideas of what else I could do? Anyone interested?

Oooh, that sounds like fun.

Other ideas could be discussing the invention and history of chopsticks, or talk about the materials used.

we did this at our Japanese club!  though it was cheating for those of us who use chopsticks regularly, I suppose Wink

you can have different difficulties, with easier being things like saltwater taffy, fried tofu, etc. with texture and is large and easy to grab.  then more advance can have things such as peanuts, gobstoppers, etc. that is smooth and small! Cheesy

I love using chopsticks but alot of times I still pick forks to eat depending on what it is. I never did find out how to pick up smooth things tho. START THE PANEL! lol I'm curious how to do that now. Smiley

Or there could be multiple rounds of it. Like at the beginning, have a bunch of people moving taffy or tofu or whathaveyou into a bowl. Then the top x number of people move on to the next round of moving something slightly more difficult. Then in the end have a one-on-one chopstick battle over a nice set of sticks or some such.
It could be at the end of a chopstick panel where we learn about how to use them properly, what they're made of, etc. :3

Afro That sounds like a really good idea! I guess I better start practicing...lol

Hahaha Im so jealous of my Aniki. We went out for chinese the other night and he doesn't normally use chopsticks but there he was able to pick up grapes and such. I was so jealous! I tried but they kept slipping. I'm not sure what i did wrong.

AH so people are still interested? If so, I really should have someone put it together.
I'm actually trying for a different event/plan, but I could probably still do both so long as time didn't overlap.
